Anastasia Mosquito Control District, Florida, USA

Sandra Gewehr, the current president of the EMCA (European Mosquito Control Association), has been invited by the Director of the Anastasia Mosquito Control District, Florida, USA, Dr. Rui-De Xue, who is also the president-elect of the AMCA (American Mosquito Control Association), to the 19th Annual arbovirus surveillance and mosquito control workshop, to give a presentation on mosquito-borne diseases currently threatening Europe as well as on mosquito control technologies and EMCA’s support to fight both diseases and nuisance.

At the initiative of Dr. Florence Fouque of the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases of the World Health Organization (TDR/WHO), responsible WHO Officer for the development of WHO-EMCA guidelines for mosquito control, a preliminary discussion will take place to explore the possibility of an EMCA-AMCA cooperation to create joint guidelines.

It should be noted that AMCA, as the oldest and largest mosquito control organization has already produced guidelines for good practices implemented in the American countries. But for the first time there will be plans for drafting jointly international guidelines for mosquito control based on WHO norms and standards.
