TITLE: BEST PRACTICES FOR MOSQUITO CONTROL IN EUROPE

SITE: University of Applied sciences of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) in Mendrisio, Switzerland

FEES: 80euros for EMCA members, 100euros for non EMCA members

INCLUDES: 3 coffee breaks, 2 lunches,  e-abstract book

TOPICS OF: BEST PRACTICES FOR MOSQUITO CONTROL IN EUROPE

  1. Best practices for surveying adult mosquitoes to define the target
  2. Best practices for surveying mosquito larvae  for larviciding
  3. Best practices for mosquito control in wetlands
  4. Best practices for mosquito control in the rural/periurban system
  5. Best practices for mosquito control in the urban system (public places)
  6. Best practices for mosquito control in the urban system (private places and points of entry)
  7. Best practices for the comparison of available monitoring and control tools
  8. Best practices for efficacy evaluation in mosquito control

Introductory talks, given by invited speakers only, will be followed by working group debates on the different topics, before restitutions to the whole assembly.

Attendees can suggest posters presenting their experiences in developing/applying best practices for mosquito control.

For attending the event the submission of poster is not obligatory.

Following this workshop, online guidance documents on best practices for mosquito control in Europe will be produced by EMCA.

 

A special one-day TRAINING COURSE will follow (on 30th November, 2022) with limited vacancy

(20 persons) and priority will be given to the persons that had pre-registrated until July 30th (who they also need to register formally now again).

If any selection of attendees is needed, priority will be given to mosquito surveillance and control practitioners.

TITLE: “IDENTIFICATION OF CONTAINER-INHABITING AEDES MOSQUITOS EGGS”

CONTENT OF THE TRAINING COURSE: “Identification of invasive Aedes species eggs” (Aedes aegypti, Ae. albopictus, Ae. japonicus, and Ae. koreicus). With practice on identification by microscopy and MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry; PCRs will be introduced by talks/videos (SOP - Standard Operating Procedure)

SITE: at the Vector Ecology Unit of the Institute of Microbiology, campus SUPSI, via Flora Ruchat-Roncati 15, 6850, Mendrisio, Switzerland. 

FEES: 50euros for EMCA members, 80euros for no EMCA members

INCLUDES: all necessary laboratory material, certificate of attendance

  • Abstracts will only be considered for acceptance when the registration fee has paid in by the author.
  • The nearest Hotels to SUPSI are Hotel Milano and Hotel Coronado, but since SUPSI is adjacent to the train station you can also easily stay in other cities or towns and get to the venue by regional train (https://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html).
  • B&B are also existing near the lake in a nearby town (B&B Chery in Riva San Vitale much used by students), but more can be found on Booking or Airbnb.
  • For the same reason SUPSI is easily accessible from Malpensa airport (https://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html). From here the regional train leaves and stops in front of the SUPSI (about 1 hour ride).
  • Electric bicycles can also be easily rented within the region, which can make travel easier (https://www.publibike.ch/en/publibike).
