ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

The XII EMCA Workshop 2026 is where Europe’s mosquito-control community comes together to act — not just to meet.

This year’s programme will connect science, regulation and operational practice through three main sessions:

  • Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis — Bti
  • Biocide Regulation
  • Continuous Education

Through expert presentations, practical discussions and interactive Working Groups, participants will exchange experience, identify shared priorities and contribute to effective and sustainable mosquito control in Europe.

Your participation helps EMCA speak with one voice — EMCA in Action.

SESSIONS

The main focus of the Workshop will be the use of Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti) in Europe. The programme will include oral presentations on Bti applications, completion of the Bti Use in Europe Questionnaire and two interactive Working Group sessions.

Each participant may join two of the following three Bti topics across the two Working Group sessions (the Working Groups are expected to consist of approximately 10–12 participants, supporting active participation and focused discussion):

  • Non-target organisms
  • Efficacy, larval sensitivity, mechanisms and resistance
  • Operations, applications and formulations

The Working Groups will prepare summaries of their discussions, which will be presented and discussed in plenary on the second day.

The programme will also include dedicated sessions of the:

  • EMCA Biocide Regulation Working Group
  • EMCA Continuing Education Working Group

These sessions will address the objectives, achievements and future activities of the respective Working Groups.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Participants are invited to submit an abstract describing a case study or real-world experience related to the application of Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti). Unsuccessful applications and lessons learned from operational challenges are also welcome.

Six abstracts will be selected for 10-minute oral presentations during the Workshop. The remaining accepted abstracts will be presented as posters in A0 format.

Abstracts must be uploaded through the Workshop Registration Form.

Authors will be informed of the outcome of the evaluation in due course.

WORKSHOP FORMAT

The Workshop will be held in person.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

The Workshop is intended to:

  • identify shared scientific, operational and regulatory priorities;
  • exchange experience and good practices among participants;
  • develop conclusions and recommendations from the thematic Working Groups;
  • support future EMCA activities on Bti, biocide regulation and Continuous Education;
  • strengthen cooperation across the European mosquito-control community.

The conclusions and outputs of the Workshop may be further communicated through EMCA’s activities and communication channels.
