Dear EMCA members,
It is my honour to take the responsibility of being your acting president for the coming two years. First I would like to thank you all for the trust you are placing in my contribution as president, and I will do my best to deserve it.
Then I would like of course to thank our past President, Ruben Bueno Mari, who did a great job during the past two years, maintaining EMCA alive despite the difficult pandemic context. But this context is still ongoing (for how long? nobody knows…), and we have to find ways to further efficiently exchange knowledge, ideas, achievements and questions without meeting face-to-face.
However your EMCA board did decide, in an optimist approach, to plan our next International Conference in Vienna, Austria, from 3rd to 8th October, 2021 (EMCA - Xth INTERNATIONAL EMCA CONFERENCE,VIENNA, AUSTRIA ,1ST ANNOUNCEMENT ). While we start to prepare that conference and invite EMCA members and others to prepare presentations, we will decide by end of June 2021 if that conference will be confirmed face-to-face or held virtually, or even postponed to 2022.
In the mean time I will soon come back to you with suggestions to improve/increase our services and activities, to try to fulfil your needs. In that perspective I would encourage you to kindly express your needs and to suggest action that EMCA may take and develop, by simply emailing to < email@example.com > and/or to < firstname.lastname@example.org >.
As a first action for 2021, I’m pleased to announce that our Journal of the European Mosquito Control Association is now published in collaboration with Wageningen Academic. A first article is already online Vectors and vector-borne diseases in Qatar: current status, key challenges and future prospects and I encourage you to prepare and submit manuscripts to make our journal better recognised, indexed and evaluated. We just sent out a common press release Press release JEMCA-1617012103237.pdf.
I look forward to read from you!
With my best regards,
Dr. Francis Schaffner
Editor-in-chief of JEMCA
