The European Mosquito Control Association (EMCA) is pleased to announce the release of its new Guidelines for Mosquito Control in Built-up Areas in Europe. Created by the EMCA Working Group “Best practices”, supported by TDR/WHO and in line with WHO norms and standards, these guidelines provide evidence-based recommendations for effective mosquito surveillance and control in response to the rising threat of mosquito-borne diseases in urban environments in Europe.
The guidelines aim to support policymakers and mosquito control experts by building on existing literature from Europe and focusing on practical solutions for urban and peri-urban environments.
The guidelines were developed implementing scientific literature reviews and the GRADE approach for the evaluation of the strength of evidence of the selected literature to ensure evidence-based advice. For a total of 24 PICO questions (Population, Intervention, Comparison and Outcome) concerning larval control, adult control and Integrated Vector Management (IVM), entomological endpoints were used as a proxy for the evaluation of the impact of vector control interventions on human populations in European urban environments resulting in eleven recommendations and good practice statements.
We would value your insights and would like to encourage you to provide feedback or a critical appraisal of the document, as your expertise will be instrumental in refining and enhancing the effectiveness of future updates.
